This is 35-year-old Brennan Robert Hill. Just hours ago, in a fit of rage, he murdered his girlfriend. Now he sits in an interrogation room, convinced he has the detectives wrapped around his thumb. Brennan called the police, claiming his 22-year-old girlfriend, Savannah Gonzalez, had just been shot by a homeless man while stopped at a parking lot in the car. Yet as detectives arrived on scene and medics inspected Savannah, who was hanging onto a thread, they noticed the gunshot wound to her head was way too close for what Brennan described. The wound was from extremely close contact with the gun. In the interrogation room, Brennan wept and spiraled into panic. But the longer it went on, the less it looked like grief. Detectives began to sense something beneath the tears. What first appeared to be mourning slowly started to resemble something far more telling.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, we were sitting in a dirt parking lot or whatever. What dirt parking lot? Of the street. Like I made a left out of microtel. And then I went off to the stop side and I made it right, and then I went down towards like coming towards like this area, towards like flatter, but I pulled off in this dirt, this dirt road thing off Old King. And we were sitting there trying to find hotels.
unknownIt's like people go there and walk or something or whatever.
SPEAKER_02But I had pooled.
SPEAKER_04Oh yeah. I can give them money all the f time.
SPEAKER_06Okay, so you pull in to the uh the little dirt park light.
SPEAKER_04Come down. I don't even know where he came from and he was like looking at my no or nothing. He has to be for a cigarette.
SPEAKER_06Okay, hold on, hold on. Who is who is he? What is he?
SPEAKER_04Why is it so black, dude? And like fing dirty looking shirt he was like wearing like a b- I don't know if it was a hoodie or a long sleeve shirt, but it was black.
SPEAKER_06Okay, black black type of long sleeve shirt or something, something like that. Okay, was he wearing DC we were wearing jeans or shorts or anybody's jeans on a cigarette now?
SPEAKER_04Your window and your window, down the window. Yeah. And I said, what's up? And he was like, got a circuit. And I said, yeah, the link over I linked over the gap shirts and I looked like he had four fucking dumbies. And he said, give me the black. I'm gonna kiss when I grab the baby's pow! Right when I grabbed the movies and pow! And I'm gonna run the little seen this guy before.
SPEAKER_03I know it's hard. Deep breath. What did he sound like when he was talking to you?
SPEAKER_04Like what was his voice like? You got a cigarette, money! I don't know. He did say he said.
SPEAKER_02I'm trying to remember exactly how he said it.
SPEAKER_06When he did that, so he you see get a good look at the gun? Do you have any idea? Can you describe it at all? It was black and it was compact like this. Okay, so it was a smaller, smaller handgun that looked like a um like a semi-automatic style handgun, not a revolver. No, it wasn't the revolver. Okay. And he reached in through the open window? Do you remember which hand he had on his hand? Was it right hand or left hand? He was his left hand. I believe it was his left hand. Okay. So he comes in into the car with it, and you say, and you look back, we get the cigarettes, and you're like, holy shit. I went over to get the cigarette. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04And then I look, he had it. He was just putting it up. So he had it. He was pointing there at me. Yeah, he was pointing there at me, trying to put it on my face. Okay, so now you can't. Right when I looked out, he was like trying to put it on me, and I just went back and I pulled it. Okay, you pulled the hand and the gun was past you. Soon as I as soon as I grabbed his arm, he said, pow! And I let him I let it go. Okay.
SPEAKER_06Well that's an actual reaction, man. You know, it's crazy. Obviously you're gonna try to get it out of your face. That's so he reaches in, so his hand's all the way in the car in front of your face, he's hitting you in the face, kinda. I'm gonna repeat myself a lot, so please forgive me.
SPEAKER_03Um does it touch you at all? Or like almost it's just so close.
SPEAKER_06He's kind of pushing it in your face, or is he actually hitting you with it? Yeah, it's just thinking what's quitting it's worth you.
SPEAKER_04It's kinda like intimidating you, kinda like Graham. Graham, I'm talking to the detectives right now.
SPEAKER_05I wish no Graham, I need you, I don't want to I can't do this.
SPEAKER_02They they they said you're taking it a Halifax!
SPEAKER_00As the detectives were asking the basic questions of what the killer looked like, where the shooting took place, Brennan would reply in long sentences, but in reality, he wasn't actually saying much. All the information he was giving was vague. This was something the detectives noticed, but it was too early to determine the cause.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, she was breathing and making noises and everything. Like the back of her head or something.
SPEAKER_06Right, you give her a call back in the back.
SPEAKER_05I'm calling back here, you're my queen, man. This is my queen.
SPEAKER_03How long have you guys been together?
SPEAKER_04Like a better part of eight months now. But she's the best thing I have ever had. She's the only real genuine anything that I've ever had in my whole entire life, yo. She like makes me wanna live.
SPEAKER_03Hold on to that, okay? I know this is hard, but we're trying to help her and we're trying to help you, okay?
SPEAKER_05Yes!
SPEAKER_06Where'd you guys meet? Maybe here in town or yeah. How'd you help me up?
SPEAKER_04I was trying like be a part of this car group. And we all used to meet at this guy Christian's house. Guy Christian? She just came over one day.
SPEAKER_06Y'all started connecting over cars and stuff and hanging out and wanting to lead to the next. Okay. Is it about eight months y'all been together? How long have you guys been uh kind of topic from hotel to hotel and kind of dealing with all that?
SPEAKER_02Like a month now.
SPEAKER_06About a month? You all living together before that or? Yeah. Yeah? Where y'all living at? You here in town too? Okay, but does he live does he live here in the market?
unknownYeah, stop you.
SPEAKER_07We see a lot of uh people hard times.
SPEAKER_06I see it quite often on patrol and we're up there when people were spot and the microtell for standard time, and then I have a car, and then popping up and some woods and stuff. It's a struggle, man. So when you all were at the microtel, you've never had any encounters with anybody, never had any beats with anybody, nothing where anyone would ever threaten you guys or felt felt scared that somebody wanna hurt you, nothing like that ever occurred.
SPEAKER_04No, not not really. I mean, people are always frequent in the microtel, there's always like weirdos and strangers out there.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Like, I come from the bad part in Pennsylvania, I'm not, you know, I'm used to shady shit. You know. So it I just know what to look for. You know. And that was our my only concern was me and her had somewhere to stay, you know. So like we never was hanging out with them type people or nothing. We literally go and she just started work and everything. Like we're trying to have a fucking life. We're trying to.
SPEAKER_03When does that sorry? When did this guy come up to your car? Where did he come from?
SPEAKER_04I don't know. I do not know where you're fucking from.
SPEAKER_03No. What time was it like roughly when you guys are at the park? Was it dark out still or is it sun out? No, it's sunnual. Okay.
SPEAKER_04It literally literally literally happened and I rushed straight here with her, like literally fucking took off like a bad hell.
SPEAKER_06It's like what time did y'all get up this morning? Just we can give a real good timeline of like to be able to pull it. We weren't there, you know what I mean? So y'all get up at a normal normal original hour.
unknownYeah, what time you gotta usually get up, like how'd I go down this morning? We normally get up around 7.38. You know it's consistent today? Right around that time?
SPEAKER_04Um we had the pack up in the hotel.
SPEAKER_03So you guys got up? What'd you guys do? You start packing? You get everything packed up?
unknownOkay?
SPEAKER_04Loaded the car up and fucking We were just trying to find another hotel. There was no, there wasn't Nothing. And there's this one that is on uh the beach, just this little blue flagware and hotel type thing, and we were trying to find a name for that because the lady gave me a good quote before bike week and just told me to come back after bike week and all that, and we just didn't want to drive down and waste the gas because we're trying to save money and everything. It would literally just So y'all checked out.
SPEAKER_00Brennan continued painting this image that Savannah is the love of his life, as he said, his queen, and how it's them against the world. For a suspect, they might think these expressions of love helps them look less guilty. Yet to season detectives, a person who is innocent and just saw someone they love get shot would be focusing on who did it, detail, and information that will aid the cops investigation, something that Brennan was clearly avoiding.
SPEAKER_04And then how long from then is the y'all go for that third uh twenty minutes and I even like literally was like on the phone and woke in and literally just drove there and probably like we packed the car up, fucking we were fucking stressing about where the fuck are we gonna stay and um She wa she was just gonna said she was gonna walk and I I told her no, I was like, fuck it, it doesn't matter, you know, fuck it, just get no fuck it, let's go, let's get in the car, we'll find somewhere to go and think that serious because she was like this is bullshit, we're fucking wrong with this, like we're both fucking hurting because we don't got nowhere to go, and it's just like it's they will find somewhere to go type shit, you know, and that's all we were trying to do is just find somewhere for us to go and be safe. Like sudden shit, don't fucking Why would she gonna walk away?
SPEAKER_06She wasn't gonna go with you.
SPEAKER_04You know, she'll just be like, I'm I'm just gonna walk and fine. And I mean and anything happen that later feel like that or No. Just pissed off because we're fucking homeless and we gotta check on and got nowhere to go. No help from my side, no help from her side. It's just like we were like, Yeah, what are we gonna do now, babe? Like this is fucking pointless type shit. Like, look at us, we're fucking homeless. No, babe, no, we're be alright. We got money, she got a thousand dollars, I got close to a thousand dollars, we'll be alright, you know? It's just we just trying to be happy and have a life and get our own. She finally got a fucking job to get the proof of her income. Where'd she get with your heart at? Um, this new burger place. No, no, no, it's um burger brothers or something.
SPEAKER_03Is that up here or is that somehow?
SPEAKER_06It's up here, it's up here.
SPEAKER_03Where's that?
SPEAKER_06Yeah, that's what I have pulver's on it, right?
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_06So there's you can't think of any reason why somebody would wanna wanna try to do this to you guys.
SPEAKER_03Have you had feet with anyone at all that you can think of? Recently or was that teenage kid?
SPEAKER_04No, it was just an argument, but no, no, not at all.
SPEAKER_03When was that argument?
SPEAKER_04This was months ago, months ago.
SPEAKER_03What about her? Any arguments with anyone, anything like that?
SPEAKER_04Oh man, she's a fucking angel, she literally will do anything to help anybody.
SPEAKER_03What happen what happened after the shot went off? I know it's hard, it's a lack of process, but just slow it slow it down and think through it and try to try to tell me what happened.
SPEAKER_04He he took off running. And I immediately looked at over her because the gun was pointed that way. And that wanted to make sure she was fucking young. I don't do this, I don't want to do this no more. I've never had to see that in my diet. I don't know what it's like.
SPEAKER_03Brennan, look at me. You did the right thing. That would have taken away time to help her interview. You understand?
SPEAKER_00It was interesting how Brennan was behaving this way, almost looking like he's having a total meltdown. Yet detectives reported how through the entire interrogation, he did not shed even one real tear.
SPEAKER_05No, I'm gonna lose my baby.
SPEAKER_04I don't even feel here like no.
SPEAKER_03No deep, slow deep breath, okay? No, I know it's hard.
SPEAKER_06What were y'all doing last night? Let's let's get away from this part a little bit. What were y'all doing last night? Were y'all you all at the hotel? At the micro hotel, y'all your room together still, right? You all have to be a little bit more. Okay. So you're having a good time. Everything was good last night, right? You know, you got some shit coming up, and you kinda figure out where you gotta go tomorrow and all that type of stuff, but y'all were enjoying for this company and right? So last night was good. You had good times, right? Yes. Everything's good the whole night. Y'all do what you do with each other, enjoy each other's company, and then was ever my friend's house eating dinner. When did you guys do that?
SPEAKER_04Before you guys went back to the house and eating.
SPEAKER_06Well, did you go to his house and then come back to the hotel and then go to bed, or did you guys leave the hotel to go there and then come back? No, we left his house and went to the hotel. And then I spent breakfast. I spent dressing. And at the hotel all last night and all for the morning, everything until you guys checked out and everything was good, and y'all were joining each other, and everything was good. No issues came up, no arguments, nothing like that. Okay. Let's get mad like I said, she's still on her way down to the Halifax, so she's gonna get the best treatment she can. They're a level one trauma center, so that's in this air whole this whole greater area, this is the best place where she could be going. So what you were able to do was attack completely the same as you see right on point. Call 911, letting everybody know what's happening, hauling ass. I'm sure you were hauling ass to get here to get her to help. All those actions you took, those were the best things you could do to help her. So you need to you need to remember that that she's still fighting, bro. She's heading down there to the best hospital she can be going to. And she's fighting her. And the actions that you did gave her this chance to do it. I'm gonna be doing that. You know what I mean? Well, right right now you couldn't know. Right now, nobody's gonna be with her besides the doctors. We couldn't even go there. Yeah, there's there's n none of us could have a chance to be there with her right now.
SPEAKER_05Oh please, Lloyd, please! Please don't take my lady, please. No, I can't fail this, I can't, I can't.
SPEAKER_04I am nothing but fucking shit that fucking comes in my life all the time. I finally get something good, please. Like, this can't be real, man, this can't be real.
SPEAKER_06I got another question for you, okay? Yes. I've been doing this for a little bit, okay? And this this does not take away anything about what happened. Okay, so people get scared when I ask this question, but it's a very important question I need to ask you.
unknownOkay?
SPEAKER_06Very, very rarely does a crime occur where they there's no type of wrongdoing by anybody, okay? A lot of times we have issues and somebody sells me a bag of weed and they they want to rip the fucking guy off, and then then they have shootings and crazy shit happens over dumb shit like that. You know? Well, there's a little fight, somebody beeps, somebody looks at somebody's girl, you're talking shit, blah blah blah, stuff happens, somebody escalates it, you know, something happens to have a completely just random, random thing.
SPEAKER_04I saw weed. Okay, I saw weed and I was not there to sell no weed, it was nothing like that at all. I I legit only saw two m my friends in my circle, they're all teenagers, none of them would try to rob us or nothing like that. That's what I was that's what I was saying. No, no, okay. I promise you, it was nothing like that. I don't even sell a whole lot of weed, it's literally just enough to keep me and her smoking, and that's it. That's it.
SPEAKER_06I promise you. I appreciate you telling that.
SPEAKER_04But this guy you've never I never I never tell me your friend.
SPEAKER_06So yeah. You don't go out to any other way. So you wouldn't know this guy because he'd be your friend.
SPEAKER_04The only other homeless person that I ever gave any weed to was the old white dude and he's always at staples and he that was not him. You know who I'm talking about.
SPEAKER_00Detectives understood that random killings are far less common than many people believe. In fact, a 2024 analysis of recently reported homicides found that in 80.7% of cases, the victim knew their killer personally. Only 19.3% were committed by a complete stranger.
SPEAKER_06Okay. That's obviously something that's a concern, and I appreciate you being honest and telling me that because that comes up a lot with these types of cases. Sometimes it takes, we've learned from the past, that sometimes it takes a really long time, hours and hours and days, before somebody's like, okay, yeah, I should do sell some local. No, no, I gotta be completely honest with you.
SPEAKER_04I need you to help me. Like, I'm not gonna lie to you. Who's it?
SPEAKER_06You weren't trying to sell anybody there to sit up where somebody would have known that you were going there, right? If you tell somebody, and they want to rip you off, they know you're waiting there and the guy shows up. That did not happen.
SPEAKER_04No, sir. I would tell you straight up. I would be like, this is the motherfucker that set me up, like, let's do this now, and I'll call him right now, type shit. Like, no, I promise you.
SPEAKER_06I gotta ask, you know what I mean? So that's um that's stuff. You're doing you're helpful, you're being very helpful. You may not realize it, you're being helpful, you're giving a lot of information, okay?
SPEAKER_04So I'm not sure.
SPEAKER_06With the stress, and I I I I couldn't imagine. I couldn't imagine, I don't want to imagine what what you're feeling right now, but you know, you're doing a real good job, and I appreciate you putting the effort in to talk and try to help us because again, you're continuing to try to help her.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, absolutely.
SPEAKER_06That's all you've done since this has gone down. All you've done is everything you can to try to help her out. Okay. I'm not here. Bullshit me, bro.
SPEAKER_03Do you want some water or something?
SPEAKER_06Oh my god, fucking water. So I can't I can't give it to that man, but so the ship goes down, you immediately start driving, and you call 911 while you're driving.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_06And you go down, you can keep heading south this direction. You which how exactly do you get here? Do you remember? No, I think you call out.
SPEAKER_04Okay, how which way do you go? I don't care about. I can't I took the fucking highway. I went down to the highway because I don't I don't know how to get through here without a GPS and I I know I know the highway. Yeah. I fucking flew like a bad hell down this fucking highway. Yeah. I jump on the fucking highway. I'm V-lined it straight here. Right here.
SPEAKER_06Okay.
SPEAKER_04Almost right twice. Almost like this lady. Um here it didn't matter. I'm just like, fuck this fucking car, fuck your fucking car, I gotta go, you know, I gotta go. She's looking at me like I'm crazy.
SPEAKER_03Don't worry about her. Not gonna think about it tomorrow. We're gonna give you a little bit, okay?
SPEAKER_06So right? Do you guys can't try to relax and then I think your mom's out here?
SPEAKER_03Here's the thing. There's a bunch of people outside. And I won't no no no. You listen, your emotion's not myself. It's more protecting you from prying eyes and those people and the press that might show up and take a picture. They don't need that. And you don't need that.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. Okay. You you you don't verify a lot? No? Okay. Well, there's a guy you have to get everybody's business when you live in the people feel like so the best thing, looking out for you, and obviously think you're in and everything that you're going through. The best suggestion I can make for you would be to stay here in private, like have your mom comes hang out with you, you know what I'm saying? Just kind of just give me a second for that, and just just do your best to process what you need to process, okay? And yeah, you can call me Dan to make it easier for you. Same know me that way too, or Laver, Detective LeBron, what are you gonna do?
unknownUm if you need me for anything, okay? We're just gonna talk real quick. I gotta make a phone call, and just uh yeah, man, just uh we're here for you, okay?
SPEAKER_06So if you need something, just let me know.
unknownAlrighty?
SPEAKER_00Notice how the second the detectives paused the interrogation, Brennan's theatrics coincidentally stopped, and he immediately began gathering his keys and clothes, thinking he will be able to leave. And the moment the detectives told him he can't leave, he went right back to his emotional expression. Yet what he did once the detectives left was even more telling. The second the detectives left, Brennan got up and out of his emotional performance and sat calmly on his phone. If he was truly going through the emotions he was displaying earlier, he wouldn't be able to just snap out of them so suddenly and calmly go on his phone. Brennan later kept refusing to answer the police properly due to his emotional state, but that didn't help his case the way he thought it would, as evidence and forensics flooded in and pointed directly to Brennan. Investigators recovered videos from Savannah's phone, recorded just minutes before the shooting.
SPEAKER_01It does, it does not! It does not do what I had a gun, right? Go stop because I'm not coming with you and I'm not watching you. I already tried to stop you all day. And you want to put your hand on me and tell me how much of a kid I am. Look in the mirror. Look in the mirror.
SPEAKER_00In the footage, she and Brennan can be heard arguing in the car, with Brennan threatening to hurt her and speaking to her in a verbally abusive manner. Forensic swamps later revealed gunshot residue on Brennan's hands. The residue pattern was consistent with someone who had recently handled and fired the weapon. Savannah survived the initial shooting, but remained severely incapacitated for approximately 18 months. On November 9th, 2022, she died from complications related to the gunshot wound. Following her death, the charge against Brennan was upgraded to second degree murder. In September 2023, a jury found him guilty. In February 2024, he was sentenced to life in prison.
