On Christmas Day, what was supposed to be a routine child exchange between Amanda and her ex-boyfriend Thomas turned into something far more disturbing because sitting in Thomas's car was someone Amanda didn't expect to see. And in that moment, she made a decision that would change all of their lives forever.

The woman on the phone described a situation that no officer was prepared to face on Christmas Day. Yet it was about to get much worse when they would arrive.

When cops and paramedics arrived, they found 39-year-old Thomas Williams and his 31-year-old girlfriend, Anna Terrell. Both were shot over three times. But while Thomas was stable and conscious enough to speak to the cops, he was trying to explain it was his 38-year-old ex-girlfriend, Amanda Jensen, who shot them. Anna, on the other hand, was rapidly declining as paramedics would soon find out. One bullet tore her carotid artery in her neck. This is a major artery, and hitting it leads to rapid and uncontrollable bleeding.

And they're still giving so I'm sure this is not gonna go well for the female.

Whilst the paramedics worked on the two victims, it was crucial for the rest of the cops on scene to secure the scene. As since they were in a supermarket parking lot, people kept infiltrating the crime scene, which could cause a lot of problems later.

Once the scene was taped up and the crime log began, it was crucial for the cops to question everyone inside, as the people who saw what happened would have every right to leave, which is what would happen if the cops took too long. So far, the only information they received was from Thomas, who said it was his ex-girlfriend, 38-year-old Amanda Janssen, who shot them during a court-ordered custody exchange of their child. Though that might seem like all the information the cops would need, in reality, they have no idea where Amanda lives, where she went, and what she was planning to do next. So it was crucial for all the cops to regroup and start questioning.

Three shots while he was standing at the register. Initially said, gosh, was that a car that backfired? Came to the front door, saw the car leaving. Cop chasing them. Um looked over here. The female was still out of the car. The female was on the ground. The man was standing up. She he saw her shoot two more times. She doesn't know if both shots hit him or not, but he went down and he said, All I could hear was him saying, I'm just trying to get my kid. So now there's all these kids that are permanently damaged.

As the officer mentioned, Anna's injuries did not look good. And she was right. As well as transporting Anna to the hospital, she tragically succumbed to her injuries, meaning that this was no longer just a shooting attack. This was now a murder case. And even though the information the cops received from the witnesses wasn't much, it was enough to start the hunt. As they now had Amber's name, car, and clothing description. But there was one major issue the cops were made aware of. Amber had multiple children in the car with her during the attack. The same children were also in the car she used to escape the scene, meaning not only had they witnessed the attack, but they were now trapped inside a vehicle fleeing from police. After a 13-mile chase, officers rammed into the side of Amanda's car, forcing her off the road. A decision like this might seem extreme, but the reason police allowed the pursuit to continue for so long was because of the five children inside the vehicle. However, once speeds exceeded 100 miles per hour, officers had no choice but to act quickly. That single decision could have saved the children or put them in even greater danger. A weight no officer takes lightly.

At that point, there was little they could do but wait for forensics. Meanwhile, a new and urgent problem emerged. What to do with the five children?

Whilst the cops at the crash scene tried to arrange the plan for the five children, the squad back at the shooting scene were digging for any videos or CCTV, and what they eventually found shook everyone who saw it.

So I said, I'm getting the hell out of here. So I went to put it in reverse. And when I did, the truck is so big I couldn't get back. So I got to the back of that gray one. As soon as I hit the back of that crack chuck, he slammed into us and pushed us out of the way to get through. And he's only in the little Kia. Okay. So a worker from out here was already out here. Was already out there. They must have already started shooting because he came out right away because he probably was here at the register. So the worker was inside. Right. Heard shots, come out here to see what was going on. And the other one came right out after another worker? And yeah, he grabbed a hold of his arm and spat literally shooting. And he told him, You get the hell in there. And I looked over at Charles and I said, They're shooting. We have five shots at weeks. Okay, and you were you were you inside? I was going in to go to the bathroom and I didn't even get out. You ran back in the truck. I said, Somebody's getting shot. Which one's your truck? I said, something's wrong. I said that that's the sound of a glock to me. When was it parked?

Right here backing out of the uh cap spot. Right here next to the silver truck. Okay, so you were walking to come into the bathroom and just got to the side of my car. And that's where we both heard it because he knows what they sound like. Okay. And I said, something's not right, Charles, get that, but get back in the car. I said, because I'm getting out of here. I'm not getting away. So I got back in the car, and as soon as I got backed up, I got out of the corner of my eye that white vehicle coming around at a high rate of speed. And he went and slammed right into the front end of our car, which is the one right there.

Piece by piece, the team was building a picture of what had happened. Yet unfortunately, no one so far had any usable footage. But what this woman had just mentioned pointed them in a new direction. The workers. Walgreens, being a large store, had to have CCTV. And at this point, it looked like this was their only real lead. And that was true as soon as they saw it. The truth was undeniable.

As officers examined the car, the officer reviewing the CCTV rushed back to the scene, urgently informing the others of what he had just seen. What they were about to watch was so devastating, the employee who first saw the footage couldn't bring themselves to watch it again.

The officers at the initial crime scene found exactly what they were looking for. Amanda caught red-handed on CCTV, shooting Thomas and Anna. Once forensics arrived, the officer's job at the scene was done. But there was still something that needed to be handled, informing the children of what would happen next, with their mother now facing prison and their father fighting for his life in hospital. And there was no easy way to do it.

The officers were able to contact the cousin Amanda had mentioned, who agreed to take in the children, giving them a safe adult to stay with. However, there were formal procedures that had to be followed before releasing the children into someone else's care, and that was what officers began explaining to them on the way there.

Thankfully for the children, as they were being transported to get questioned, Thomas woke up in the hospital where the officers broke the news of what had happened, and Thomas wasted no time explaining what happened, and most importantly, why.

And I was like, my wife. And she was like, Well, who's in the car? And she kept walking up and then she saw what it was, and then she was pulled by the door out of her bag. Shhh, looked like a shot my brother in the head. So I jumped out on the passenger side. Seeing that she was coming on my side. So I tried, I went through the passenger side to the back door. I'm trying to think of which was the first shot. Because the second and third shot was my back when I was in the car. And the third shot was in my leg.
