SPEAKER_03

I know you want to do some s about 13.

SPEAKER_00

This is 35-year-old Johnny Martin. And just a few moments ago, he found out his 13-year-old son, Ethan Martin, was brutally killed. Earlier that day, Ethan begged his dad and older brother to take him to see cars racing. Yet what none of them could have predicted was how that single decision would end in an irreversible fatality.

SPEAKER_06

Your story sticks. Why can't you just be straight with me, man? Bro, he just got pronounced as a As cops arrived on scene.

SPEAKER_00

What they first thought would be a simple call out would turn into pure chaos.

SPEAKER_05

Unfortunately, that's the only clue that I can uh first I was scared to see if it was just trying to have some moments.

SPEAKER_00

On January 29th, 2023, St. Petersburg, Florida, at around 12.35 a.m., police responded to a call about a devastating crash. Officers arrived to find that during an illegal street racing gathering on 28th Street North, a motorcycle traveling at more than 100 miles per hour had struck a 13-year-old boy crossing the road. According to investigators, the impact killed the ch and seriously injured a nearby bystander. By the time authorities arrived at the scene, the racing event had already descended into chaos, leaving detectives to piece together exactly what had happened.

SPEAKER_02

Alright boom! Hey bro, it's your dad. It's your dad, don't do shit, bro. I know you want to do something shit to that nigga, bro. Calm down, bro. Come down, buddy. It's poppy. It's poppy. Hey boom, calm down. Uh uh. It's okay. Uh uh.

SPEAKER_04

Uh-uh.

SPEAKER_02

Sean, relax.

SPEAKER_19

Alright. Hey guys, we got we got we gotta move back, alright? We gotta get you back on the fire trucks.

SPEAKER_04

I know. I know. Mr. Martin, come on, man. We gotta we gotta we gotta move you, okay?

SPEAKER_00

The officers needed to gather evidence about what happened, but they first needed to focus on the grieving Johnny and his older son William, who was also present during the accident. Yet William was falling into severe shock with what just happened, and it was crucial to make sure he was safe.

SPEAKER_04

We need about two more of his over here and outside and start talking about it. I thought he stayed by the dragon.

SPEAKER_15

I thought he didn't fucking drag it in fucking listening to me.

SPEAKER_04

I should've stopped him, I should have gotten in the game.

SPEAKER_21

I shouldn't stay at the dragon stayed with me. It's okay, buddy. It's okay, I should have stayed next to you. It's not your fault, bro. It's not your fault. It's not your fault, bro. No, it's okay, buddy. Don't blame this on you. That's all you wanted to do is play Fortnite, but we should have just stayed home. It's okay, relax, relax. Don't blame this off on you. Don't blame this on you. What the fuck is she gonna say? She's gonna shoot you, she's gonna clean you. I'll deal with anything whatever. She's gonna take the shot. Look, she's gonna do anything.

SPEAKER_03

Don't worry about that. Relax. I'm not worried about that. I'm worried about the brother right now.

SPEAKER_21

No, you're not relaxed. Calm down, just calm down. Hey, calm down. Calm down. Calm down. Calm, please. Calm down.

SPEAKER_00

The officers got a message over the radio that they think the team might have a clue for who was responsible for Ethan's death. But that did not help the situation.

SPEAKER_03

Where we hit him. I want that big murder. I want that big dead. I want him dead. I don't care what you're doing. Calm down. Calm down. Hey, hey, stop what you're saying, dude. Stop what you're saying. Take it out of anger, you've mostly.

SPEAKER_09

Calm down.

SPEAKER_04

We need two people on the south right here and people in the same zero.

SPEAKER_07

We gotta move the paint back once we get to calm down.

SPEAKER_03

Because uh couple cars are in the room. You're not gonna do nothing, the law do they. We're gonna do an investigation. Okay. This is not right. We need to come from the south on 28th Street.

SPEAKER_07

We don't need anyone coming from the north anymore. Okay. This is truck about other motorcycles. Stupid, okay?

SPEAKER_02

Hey, look at me. Alright, go on it. Look at me.

SPEAKER_07

We're not gonna move anything, it's just a people here at my other cars on the track.

SPEAKER_03

My baby boy! I need you here too.

SPEAKER_21

Let him do it. Let him do his job.

SPEAKER_03

Damn God, okay.

SPEAKER_01

Now you need to be there for your dad, your dad needs to be there for you. Alright. That's all you need to worry about.

SPEAKER_06

I have another tag when you're ready.

SPEAKER_04

Stop stop. Okay.

SPEAKER_18

Oh my god. Oh my dude, you're not my car. Fucking dad's kid!

SPEAKER_03

No, gotcha. I want to take the impact. It's me. Oh, me. She's 13, man. I'd be 14. It was supposed to be just a car show. Nobody racing. Nobody was even racing at all. What ended up happening? All the people the only thing was people just spinning tires, that's it. And they just stopped 10 feet. That's it, 10 feet, 20 feet. Yeah. But nobody was racing at all. But then I went over here to look at to take a video of a car that I liked. I crossed the street. And then some motorcycle crashed. I ran to the motorcycle. I didn't know he he crashed because he hit my son. I didn't know he was behind me. You're supposed to stay by the truck. I told him to stay by the truck. The car is stolen at a race show. Nobody's supposed to be racing here.

SPEAKER_00

Giving comps the first clue, despite initial suspicions that Ethan was hit by a car, since it looked like a car made up, it was a motorcycle that handed the fatal blow. Yet this wasn't about to be easy, as the people on scene didn't want to tell the truth of what they saw. More specifically, the truth of who was on that bike. Yet the killer was closer to home than they first thought.

SPEAKER_11

I get that. What's up?

SPEAKER_18

Do we have a sheet? Can we go on the other side of that line? Is that okay with you guys?

SPEAKER_04

Well, we don't want to pass the body. Oh yeah, see that shit.

SPEAKER_11

Hey, I'm on to call. Were y'all over here witnessed? We was literally walking away.

SPEAKER_15

We was walking in the right. He's his brother, but we were walking with him.

SPEAKER_11

I want to hear what y'all saw. Do you mind if we just go ahead and step outside on the side?

SPEAKER_15

I saw his brother get hit.

SPEAKER_11

Do you mind if we go over here into the room? Yeah, come on. Are you able to come over here too, man?

SPEAKER_15

Alex, come on, come on, come on.

SPEAKER_11

Oh what's her name, man? What's your name?

SPEAKER_15

Mason.

SPEAKER_11

Casey? Casey, I wanna Mason. Mason. Mason, right? Is it okay if we go speak over here? I don't get away from this part over here.

SPEAKER_00

Half of the youth on scene was too emotional to talk, and the other half didn't have anything useful to say.

SPEAKER_06

What's going on? How you doing? Were you guys out here for all this whole stuff that happened? No, we didn't have a friend guy. Do me a favor, turn the car off, will you? So we had uh an accident that was a oh sorry. You hit me with the door, man. Uh whose uh glove is that? Without touching it. Don't reach down to touch it, but is that your glove?

SPEAKER_19

Sure, no, it's not.

SPEAKER_06

Okay. Um were you out here? Did you see uh maybe what happened down there? No. No? No, I mean you weren't out here or you just didn't see it? I just got a call. Put your hand out of your pocket for me, will you? Yes.

SPEAKER_19

Let me just take everything out.

SPEAKER_06

No, no, you're fine, man. Just can't just while you're talking to me. Alright, what's your first name?

SPEAKER_19

Anthony.

SPEAKER_06

Uh whose car is this?

SPEAKER_19

This is uh You got any ID on you? This is my buddy's car, yeah.

SPEAKER_06

Okay. Your buddy's car? Who's your buddy?

SPEAKER_19

He's he's already over there.

SPEAKER_06

Who who is it?

SPEAKER_19

He's with them. He's with them.

SPEAKER_06

What's your buddy? What's his name? David. David What?

SPEAKER_19

Uh what's his last name?

SPEAKER_06

He's your buddy, but you don't know his last name?

SPEAKER_17

Well, I don't know his last name. Obviously.

SPEAKER_06

But it's his car though?

SPEAKER_17

Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

Alright, uh what time did you guys get here?

SPEAKER_19

I got here probably about 15 minutes ago.

SPEAKER_06

Alright, so what'd you see down here, man? I mean, obviously we have a pretty bad accident, so what happened?

SPEAKER_19

Yeah. I pulled I pulled up and I saw the ambulances and everything, and my buggy. My buggy was here, my other buggy was here already. And I pulled up and I just your buddy David, right? No, no, no, no. Another buggy. He already left.

SPEAKER_06

You got whose car keys? David's. This car. Yeah, this car for this car. And then he wasn't me. How did you get here? What were you driving? My truck and my buggy took the city. Where's your truck? My body took there and my buggy took my truck, and I was gonna just drive.

SPEAKER_19

I was gonna just drive his car to his house, and that's it.

SPEAKER_06

Who has the keys in his car?

SPEAKER_19

I have the keys to his car right now.

SPEAKER_06

Oh, okay. But that's David's car.

SPEAKER_19

That's David's car. I was just gonna drive it to his house.

SPEAKER_06

Okay. So were you out here when the accident happened? Help us out here so we can figure out what happened.

SPEAKER_19

No, I was not. I was not.

SPEAKER_06

You're gonna tell me that you guys rolled up after.

SPEAKER_19

Yeah, because I got your call. I was already in the area. Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_06

Okay. So where were you?

SPEAKER_19

I was in the area. I was on I was I was down here. So I was coming from I was coming from the I was on the hook.

SPEAKER_06

The bridge. Listen, you're not being honest with me, man. Now I gotta go back and tell them that you're not being honest with me for whatever reason. I don't really know why at this point. But your story stinks. Why can't you just be straight with me, man? You know? Because it's all gonna come out in the wash anyways, you know, and it's gonna look really not great if they come to find out you were directly involved somehow, which they will find out. You know what I mean? So that's what I'm trying I'm asking you now. Like, what's going on, man?

SPEAKER_19

Alright. Uh well, pretty cool.

SPEAKER_00

The cops on scene had to deal with scared teenagers, and none of them wanted to speak with detail, as they were all present at an illegal car race, which resulted in a fatality of a minor. And this severely stalled the cops' investigation. Yet that wasn't the only thing, as parents began flooding the scene, unaware they're running around just feet away from Ethan's lifeless body.

SPEAKER_04

Fucking shut the fuck up.

SPEAKER_00

Now, imagine seeing so much more. Well, that's why we went all out and decided to create channels in every niche, which are still based on true crime for you to enjoy. I mean, who doesn't like seeing people's reactions like these from no commentary to just interrogation? Because I know some of you guys hate that, but that's not the end. We really enjoy what we are building, so we have an exclusive Patreon community where they get first hand access to anything we post and all uncensored footage and images. And some of the things are truly horrifying.

SPEAKER_16

I don't, I don't miss what's going on.

SPEAKER_06

Who's your son? Christian's hot. How old is your son?

SPEAKER_16

17. He was his best friend's brother's the one that got his. Listen, listen. I need to see myself.

SPEAKER_06

Listen, I I understand, but what we have listened to. Listen to what I'm saying. We have an active scene over there, and I can't just have you running over there just to just because you think maybe he's there, maybe he's not. We don't know where he is.

SPEAKER_21

No, I know he's not.

SPEAKER_06

So what I can't have you doing is run through an active scene because you're gonna run into problems. I get it. Okay, but I'm gonna need you to stand by for a second, let us handle what we gotta do up there, let us figure it out, okay? But I can't have you just running through there yelling your son's game. Just give us a minute, okay?

SPEAKER_10

We don't even know your son's name yet.

SPEAKER_06

We don't even know your son's name yet. Christian cloud.

SPEAKER_00

All right, so Christian Todd's Besides the constant hurdles, what comps didn't know yet was that two boys still at the scene saw the whole ordeal, and they were about to come forward with information that would set the investigation back into motion.

SPEAKER_08

And then uh were you like the ball or were you a little that was going on? My buddy was on the bike.

SPEAKER_07

Your buddy was on the bike? He was just cruising down. You can't see shit down here. The kid ran in front of the road.

SPEAKER_08

So your buddy was going this way? Yeah, he was just cruising. Okay. And then uh somebody hit him or he hit somebody.

SPEAKER_07

Uh fucking pedestrian ran across the road. You hit the pedestrian. He hit the pedestrian. Was this like a meter spot that you guys made up? Yeah, I don't really come down here much because I live in Pascal County, so um my little girl and her cousin, I just picked up her cousin from the airport, so yeah. We need uh some cars.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, yeah, man. Yeah, you just like seeing the cars and stuff. So this is like spots you guys made up. I guess it's not like the first time basically like you're here to this spot.

SPEAKER_07

This is the first time I've come to this spot. Usually I go over to like the Ramon, yeah. Or like that racetrack station, but I like the race. Yeah, because I mean I'm not really here to race my car. Um, he's in the military. He's a marine. Um he used to live here, and then he got stationed, he's just down here for the weekend.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, you see on this lane, or like this lane? Yeah, come on, side okay.

SPEAKER_00

There was the cop's first clue. The vehicle that supposedly hit the victim was a black gypsy motorbike. Yet somehow the cop forgot to ask the name of his buddy. But luckily, another boy was ready to give that information up.

SPEAKER_14

Remember, how are we are you related to anybody here? Gotcha, pretty much. What hap what did you share? What happened? So he was on the bike, he was coming this way. Do you know who's on the bike? Yeah, his uh Carlos. You know Carlos, like yes. Yeah, we're gonna be my close friend. Okay. Um he was riding this way on the bike, and a group of people tried to like run across the street. I'm guessing what they were doing, but they ran across the street and they ran in front of him and he hit me. Gotcha. And what you remember what like was they were all running the same direction, people? Like, were they crossing this way, were they crossing this side? They crossed on that side of the road going that way, and they were crossing that way. Gotcha.

SPEAKER_00

The detectives were one step closer to discovering what happened. Yet no one so far admitted to witnessing any racing or the motorcycle traveling at an illegal speed. And that is something the cops needed to correctly charge Carlos, as without that information, Carlos could walk away with little consequence. So the next course of action was to try to gather any footage. As this was a teenager meetup spot, there had to be someone that filmed the crash. But this was going to prove to be much harder to obtain than they imagined. But first, they had to speak with Carlos.

SPEAKER_18

We'll let him know, we'll let him know. I'm letting him know. I gotta do it. I'm gonna be cool with you. It's just between me and him. It's between me and now. Let me talk to him. Let me talk to him. Let me talk to him. Please let me talk to him. Let me talk to him. Let me fucking talk to him.

SPEAKER_07

I'm just trying to clear people out right now, but we don't want anyone to do it.

SPEAKER_15

Oh fuck, bro. What the flu is 13? 12, bro. Dude was 12. 13, same shit. Hey, he's not bro, he just got pronounced as a fing teenager. Oh god, bro. What the f is this bullshit, bro?

SPEAKER_00

Luckily for the cops, Carlos wasn't denying involvement, but due to his emotional state, he wasn't able to say much. The cops were getting more and more questions with no answers. That's why the cops had to obtain footage, or else they would find themselves in a dead end.

SPEAKER_17

Um, I remember Carlos wanting to try his friend's bike.

SPEAKER_05

Okay.

SPEAKER_17

And that was the black one.

SPEAKER_05

Okay.

SPEAKER_17

But he was riding the blue one all night.

SPEAKER_05

Carlos was riding a blue one all night?

SPEAKER_17

Yes, but then he wanted to try his friends or uncles bike. Was he racing? He went out alone. I don't think he was racing anyone. I went to the record on my phone and my phone is dead. On my phone?

SPEAKER_05

It wouldn't be.

SPEAKER_17

I just wanted to record like my phone too. And my phone is ready. And then my cousin, Kataline, she's afraid to tell me that she is real. But at first I thought it only reported too much like, you know, like zooming by. But we went back and we watched it, and you can hear everything happen.

SPEAKER_05

Okay. I wouldn't need to see that.

SPEAKER_17

Yeah, but she's scared to talk to you.

SPEAKER_05

But that do you know how fast he was going roughly? No, but there's a video of use.

SPEAKER_00

This cop was the only one able to get some valuable information about possible footage. And as suspected, a lot of teenagers had videos, but they were scared to involve themselves. Thankfully, when they located Natalie, they received a crucial piece of the puzzle.

SPEAKER_05

You're not in trouble? Okay. Do you get your driving license on you or anything? In the car. In the car? Okay. Go ahead and grab it. She's just gotta get her driving license.

SPEAKER_16

It was gone pretty fast. And my cousin was on the floor and she took a video of it. And then in the video, you can hear the crash, and you can hear the crash in real life. And we ran down. And then there was a blue bite. I just seen the one body. And then my cousin started my phone and I had her call 911.

SPEAKER_10

Can you see the video?

SPEAKER_00

When she handed the video over, the cops now had a clear image of the motorcycle, Carlos riding it, and an estimate of the speed he was traveling at. When comps reenacted the video, they were able to determine Carlos had to have been traveling way above 100 miles per hour when the crash occurred, along with measurements of how far Ethan's body was thrown. This was extremely strong evidence against Carlos. Yet he wasn't the only person who was facing trouble.

SPEAKER_05

Yes, sir. Owner of the uh bike that was involved in the accident, yes, with your nephew. Uh what I'm asking you now is consent to basically do DNA swabs on the front of the bike. Basically to prove uh, you know, that that's the bike that hit the juvenile and that your nephew was the one that was riding the bike, just to eliminate everything. So you're okay with me doing DNA swabs on the bike? Yes, I draw it. Unfortunately, that's the only clue that I can uh give because it's the only thing that didn't have any blood or anything on it. Okay. So we're ran in the case. Uh I've been discussing with the state attorney about possibly filing charges and stuff like that, okay? Against the motorcyclist and even the uncle for basically allowing his nephew to ride the motorcycle. No, no, he he he's he's of age, but the thing is is he doesn't have a motorcycle endorsement, so he shouldn't have been riding that bike. Uncle was there, the owner, like, and everything, and obviously the nephew was too. Alright. So that's where we're at on the investigation. I'm still conducting it, it's still kind of early, but I have discussed it with the state. Okay.

SPEAKER_12

I'm gonna let the law that's that's exactly what you said. They say a lot of things, I was pissed. Yeah. And I was hurt, but I'm letting you guys handle this.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_12

At first I was scared because when I put them in danger, I said they're not fucking gone. I thought they were gonna go to jail either.

SPEAKER_03

Just trying to have fun, I'm sorry. So everyone took a fishy. I thought fishing, but it's all okay.

SPEAKER_20

I'll explain to you.

SPEAKER_00

Both Ethan's dad and Carlos's uncle were charged, yet the case was far from over, as an anonymous witness came forward with new information. The very next day, detectives were informed another vehicle was possibly involved in the tragedy. Detectives located the owner of the car and made their way to find out whether he was involved or just another witness on scene. It was crucial for them to take a calm approach, as the majority of the teenage witnesses refused to speak to them, so they had to make this count.

unknown

Hi.

SPEAKER_05

Hi. Jennifer? Jasmine. Jasmine? I thought your mom said uh Jennifer.

SPEAKER_10

Did you get your license on you? Uh it's upstairs. I have my number.

SPEAKER_12

No.

SPEAKER_10

That's Christopher.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, okay. Uh saying great, I'm gonna Yeah. So go over here.

SPEAKER_09

Okay. Actually, no, never mind, it's not in the car.

SPEAKER_05

Okay. Okay.

SPEAKER_09

Can I ask what this is about?

SPEAKER_05

Well, um, let me just get your name and all that stuff. So, first name's Jasmine.

SPEAKER_10

Jasmine.

SPEAKER_05

So the reason we're here is I'm I'm a traffic homicide investigator. Uh I had a case probably a couple weeks ago, and we're just trying to get all odds. When do you guys go out like together like all the time? Like, no? Okay.

SPEAKER_10

Typically I work at night.

SPEAKER_05

Okay. So I'm gonna show you a series of photos.

SPEAKER_02

What is that?

SPEAKER_05

That is basically your car. You don't recognize it?

SPEAKER_09

I can I I think that vision.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, um so I see my car. Yeah. Did you hear about a crash that happened a couple weeks ago?

SPEAKER_10

I saw something on Facebook.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_10

So there was a kid who died?

SPEAKER_05

Yeah. So there's your car.

SPEAKER_10

Okay.

SPEAKER_05

There's one person that uh got hit.

SPEAKER_10

My car didn't hit them, did it?

SPEAKER_05

No, no, no. That's your car again.

SPEAKER_10

Yes.

SPEAKER_05

That is the kid that got hit. Yeah. And then close up.

SPEAKER_09

Oh my god.

SPEAKER_05

And I I won't show you anymore. Um were you with Christopher? No, I was home. You were home? I don't go out anywhere.

SPEAKER_10

Unless it's like a birthday or something.

SPEAKER_05

We don't go out. Okay. Does he generally go out to the 40th we road?

SPEAKER_10

I mean, I'm not gonna lie to you. I know that, you know, we like we go to like Brighton, the Showtime Drag Strip over there at Hometon. Yeah, I've been there once or twice, but I don't go frequently.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah. Well, this is on 28th Street. Is that a church? It's road by the dumpster where it's very poorly lit. Union building 1201 area 1201, third turret or building apartment. I'm not saying he was.

SPEAKER_10

I call it going to be maybe nine at five minutes better to bring up the residents like watching tote too.

SPEAKER_13

Probably information as I get it, hopefully too.

SPEAKER_05

So we're just trying to like in the how we got your tag is basically he'd go through the dump. And it's very good possibility it was just before the accident, did a U-turn, came back, and then shortly after that is when the accident took place.

SPEAKER_10

Um is he going to jail for hitting the kid?

SPEAKER_05

Oh the what what happened is he was hit by a motorcyclist.

SPEAKER_10

Okay.

SPEAKER_05

Unfortunately, the child slid against the ground, hitting another person, broke their leg, and then we believing hit the car because of the speed that the motorcyclist was going after hitting the kid. The kid had to have gone at a high rate of speed on the bike perfectly and came to final rest pretty much according to the um if we're just trying to get if he got information. Nope, nope. Um does he frequently go to these?

SPEAKER_09

I I don't know, to be honest. I mean he goes out with his friends fishing, he does random things, like I don't necessarily know.

SPEAKER_05

That particular night you were here. And you were here.

SPEAKER_10

Yeah. Were you no I was dating my brother? I'm dating her brother. I was at the stockyard. So I was there till 2 a.m.

SPEAKER_05

Okay, okay. So that's why we're trying to track down and see what he actually witnessed. So yeah. So he may have just went to watch.

SPEAKER_10

Okay. Um so will he get arrested for watching?

SPEAKER_05

Technically, there is a statute or what they call it as a spectator.

SPEAKER_09

Okay.

SPEAKER_05

It'd be a citation.

SPEAKER_09

Okay.

SPEAKER_05

But we're not looking at that because we're hoping that he saw something prior to the accident that could help in the investigation. Well, I'm gonna go talk to him.

SPEAKER_10

I like to stay out of jail, so I don't go to illegal things.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah. Um, so we're just trying to cover all of our bases in that because obviously Well, I need whatever you need.

SPEAKER_10

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

It was clear to the detectives the girl had no involvement in Ethan's death, but they couldn't say the same for her boyfriend Stephen.

SPEAKER_05

What's your final name? Uh Steven. So I'm a traffic homicide investigator. Yes, sir. And I'm investigating a crash that caused the death of somebody. Yes, yes, sir. Um so I'm gonna show you a series of photos um that we got. So this is the first photo. Do you recognize the car, like the headlights or anything? I know it's kind of like because of it's dark. Uh yes, sir, it is. Yeah. How do you recognize that? The car? Is your car? Um yes, sir. Okay. So there's the second one. Obviously, this is a little closer. I won't go any further because obviously you already know what very weak stomach.

SPEAKER_20

Yeah. Uh even wet papers mostly up environment. Okay. So you were there. Yes, sir. Yes, sir. Uh why'd you leave? With a weak stomach, and then actually in those pictures, uh, I'm pretty sure you got that from the video. Yes, yes. The guy, he said backup. Backup, yeah. Okay. That's literally the only reason why I would. Who told you this backup? That the dude that was re-recording. I don't know who was.

SPEAKER_05

Okay.

SPEAKER_20

Um, so I'm gonna be 100%.

SPEAKER_05

Yep, that's fine.

SPEAKER_20

And that's what I want. No, no, no, no. Uh the biker was not racing at all. Okay. How fast he was going? 100 something. 100 something. So 100 something. But he was he was not racing. Okay. Were you in the car when it happened? No, no, no, no, sir. No. I was actually like standing like five feet in front of where the kid was. Like five feet. I was uh on the side of the road. Uh you know how there was a side of the west side of the center lane? Uh the lane, and then there's another lane and the road.

SPEAKER_05

Like the turn that turn lane?

SPEAKER_20

Yeah, I was I was standing over there by the little bit down from the turn lane.

SPEAKER_05

Um you weren't in the car itself.

SPEAKER_20

No, no, sir. Uh the kid, the kid and the brother were in the middle lane, and the kid at the last minute tried to run across the bike. He used like a deer in the headlights. It was pretty easy. Okay.

SPEAKER_10

Um, the pictures he showed me, there is a lot of different that was disgusting. I could not look at that all day.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah, unfortunately. I'm still choking down though. The poor kids family. Yeah, without a doubt. Without a doubt.

SPEAKER_10

You tell that to me out of context and it sounds like a horror movie. Like there was a 13-year-old on Dark Road. Yeah. I know that they they shut that down like they closed all the things. Mm-hmm. Because that was something that a few of my friends when I was in high school used to go to. Oh, really? But it's been years. Yeah. I graduated in 2015, so that's when I started years. You graduated and I started basically the same year. My body feels like it's 90, so don't touch that road. Don't go near that road. Don't go within 10 miles of that road.

SPEAKER_00

In cases involving teenagers, misinformation and rumors are very common, but every tip has to be explored. Yet with detectives now having a bigger picture of what occurred that night, they were met with only one conclusion. In the end, officers had their evidence, and Carlos's uncle was charged with street racing as a spectator and culpable negligence, as he allowed his unauthorized nephew to ride the bike that ultimately killed 13-year-old Ethan Martin. Ethan's dad was initially charged with street racing as a spectator and felony child neglect, yet his charges were later dropped. Finally, 20-year-old Carlos Fernandez was ultimately charged with vehicular homicide, reckless driving causing serious bodily injury, street racing, and operating a motorcycle without an endorsement, and sentenced to seven years in prison, followed by 13 years of probation for the death of 13 year old Ethan Martin.
